If you've never bought a custom golf cart, the pricing can be puzzling. The base sticker price is only part of the tale. What you really spend and what you get will depend on the type of battery, the seat arrangement, upgrade packages, shipping and warranty terms. But before any buyer can decide, they need to understand the prices behind bespoke gold cart builds. This breakdown covers every component of a custom golf cart price, allowing buyers compare high performance golf carts in Austin, TX.
The Base Cart: Where the Price Starts
The starting point for any custom build is the base model. At Golf Carts of ATX, new carts start at $3,995 for a 2-seat electric model. From there, the price moves based on how many seats you need, whether you prefer electric or gas, and the voltage of the system.
A 4-seat forward-facing electric cart sits at a different price point than a 6-seat configuration or a 72V high-performance model designed for hilly terrain. We carry brands including Kandi, Coleman Powersports, Dach Apollo, and Edge Vortex, each with its own configurations and price ranges. Every buyer gets a walkthrough of which base model fits their use case before any upgrade conversation begins.
The base price covers the cart itself, factory components, and the standard safety equipment installed at the factory. Everything added from there is chosen by the buyer.
Battery Choice and What It Adds to the Total
Battery type is one of the biggest variables in the final price of a custom golf cart. We offer three options: traditional lead-acid, AGM (sealed lead-acid), and lithium (LiFePO4).
Lead-acid batteries are the lowest upfront cost, starting at $191 per battery depending on voltage. A full set typically requires six to eight batteries. They need monthly water checks and last 3 to 5 years with proper care.
AGM batteries are a sealed, maintenance-free version of lead-acid. No water checks, no monthly attention required. They cost less than lithium while eliminating the primary maintenance hassle of traditional lead-acid packs.
Lithium (LiFePO4) kits range from $2,162 to $3,765 depending on voltage and capacity. They are maintenance-free, charge faster, hold their charge longer during storage, and last 7 to 10 years. Our ECO LiFePO4 lithium batteries carry a 10-year warranty (5-year full replacement coverage, followed by 5-year prorated coverage from the purchase date). Battery installation is $249 in-store, or $249 plus a $75 trip charge for mobile installation at your location.
For buyers who plan to use the cart regularly and want the lowest long-term cost of ownership, lithium is the better investment despite the higher upfront number. You can compare all options on our battery upgrade page.
Custom Upgrades and What Each One Adds
This is where the price of a custom golf cart can shift significantly. The most common upgrades we build into custom orders include:
Lift kits. These raise the cart's suspension by 3 to 6 inches, adding ground clearance for rough terrain and making room for larger tires. Popular for Hill Country properties and buyers who want a more aggressive stance.
Tire and wheel packages. Larger, all-terrain tires change both the performance and the look of the cart. We offer a tire and wheel builder to help buyers match tires and wheels to their lift height and cart model before committing.
Bluetooth sound systems. Amplified speakers mounted in the cart body and paired with a head unit that connects to any phone. Popular for neighborhood cruisers and recreational riders.
Street-legal light packages. Headlights, taillights, turn signals, and mirrors installed as a complete kit. Required for road registration in Texas, and useful for evening use even without registration.
Custom colors and brand accessories. Color options and accessory packages vary by cart brand. We carry accessories for Kandi, Coleman Powersports, Dach Apollo, and Edge Vortex models.
Each upgrade adds to the final number, and combinations are common. A buyer adding a lift kit, all-terrain tires, a sound system, and a street-legal light package is looking at a noticeably different total than someone taking a stock configuration off the lot.
Street-Legal Packages and Registration Costs
For buyers who want to drive on Austin-area public roads, a street-legal configuration is not optional. In Texas, a golf cart classified as an LSV (Low Speed Vehicle) requires a VIN, headlights, taillights, turn signals, side mirrors, and seatbelts. All carts we sell come with a VIN included.
Texas registration is handled at your local DMV. The fee is $20. You bring the bill of sale, pay the fee, and receive a license plate. The cart can then be driven on roads posted at 35 mph or under.
If the cart you are ordering does not yet have the full street-legal package, we add those components during the build. That cost is included in the build quote rather than added as a surprise at registration.
Delivery: What Is Already Included
Every cart we sell is delivered fully assembled and ready to ride. No setup is required on the buyer's end. You receive the cart, charge it, and go.
Delivery is available nationwide, including Hawaii. Out-of-state buyers receive the same fully assembled experience as local Austin buyers. Delivery cost varies by destination and is confirmed during the purchase process.
Every cart also comes with a 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty covering parts, labor, and transport. If something goes wrong and the cart needs to return to our Austin shop for a major repair, transport costs are covered under the warranty. Most dealers cover parts only. Our warranty covers the full picture.
